Vigil of the Ascension (English)

ascension-1.jpg

This Thursday is the 40th day following the Resurrection - the day on which, according to the Scriptures, Christ ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father. In dioceses where the Ascension is a holy day of obligation, this is celebrated on Thursday. In dioceses where the Ascension is not a holy day of obligation, it is transferred in the Ordinary Form to Sunday. The Vigil is accordingly celebrated on Wednesday or Saturday evening.
