Vigil of Pentecost (English)

Whitsun2.jpg

This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday which is one of the great feasts of the Church. It is so great that it traditionally has its own Vigil Mass (in the sense that Paschal Sunday has a Vigil) and Octave. Therefore, on Saturday, it was traditional for people to fast in preparation for the great feast - in some sense, uniting themselves with the Apostles and Our Lady in the Upper Room who prayed for the descent of the Holy Spirit which happened on Pentecost.
